Disability Awareness Shabbat

February is Jewish Disability, Awareness, and Acceptance Month - and TBA is proud to host Jewish Service for the Developmentally Disabled MetroWest Executive Director Linda Press at Shabbat evening services on Feb. 24.

JSDD and the WAE Center are engaged in bringing artwork, artists, and residents into a few congregations to spread the word about abilities and inclusion in Jewish life. While the notion of inclusion may sound abstract, it is in fact, a daily practice rooted in the practical. We need only remember to look and notice the needs of those around us, which are different than ours, and act to provide equal access to all. Everyone holds a piece of the puzzle which creates full inclusion.

Linda Press is Executive Director at JSDD MetroWest (Jewish Service for the Developmentally Disabled). Ms. Press has an MA degree from George Washington University in Early Childhood Special Education and is a certified teacher in the State of NJ. She has been working providing services to individuals with special needs for nearly 40 years, first as a teacher of children with severe and profound disabilities and then as a Coordinator of an Early Intervention Program and Preschool.

Her experiences also include Behaviorist for ARC of Essex, Family Support Coordinator for The Spina Bifida Association of NJ and Special Needs Director of JCC MetroWest prior to assuming the position of Executive Director of JSDD in 2001.

The mission of Jewish Disability Awareness, Acceptance, and Inclusion Month is to unite Jewish communities worldwide to raise awareness and champion the rights of all Jews to be accepted and included in all aspects of Jewish and community life like anyone else. This month is intended to remind us that ALL Jews, without regard to disability, must have access to Jewish life – to work live, love, play, learn and worship how and where they choose, and to contribute to this wonderful place we call our Greater MetroWest Jewish community.
